KBE "Extra"

Taking into account local climatic conditions and building methods is a fundamental aim of the KBE. Especially for the Russian climate and with consideration for the Soviet building specifications, the profile system “KBE Extra”, so called “wide frame”, was developed. The basis of this system is the window casing 127 mm wide, the widest one in the Russian market.
The “KBE Extra” system recognized as one of the most successful developments in the window sector solves completely the problem arising in the case when the temperature on the glass surface and slopes drops below the “dew point”.
The “KBE Extra” has developed as a solution for adaptation of the best western window technologies to the severe climate of Russia. The work on the system was carried out in close collaboration of the KBE and Gosstroy specialists. Therefore, in the “KBE Extra” system, the most instructive experience of several generations of the Russian and Soviet builders was taken into account. As a result of joint work, the decision was made to increase the number of chambers in the profile to five and to bring the width to 127 mm. The radically new solution for windows of Russia – “wide frame” solving the “cold bridges” problem - was found.
Based on joint developments of the KBE specialists and representatives of Gosstroy, the GOSTs (State Standards) were created which brought into action in 2001. The indicator of wide recognition of the “KBE Extra” system is the fact that the example of window mounting with just this system is given in GOST 30674-99, Appendix G “General installation specification”, Fig. 1.
The “KBE Extra” system exhibits the following unique characteristics:
Casing/frame is a five-chamber profile. Together with it, both standard sashes well known in Russia and the four-chamber ones can be used. The additional chamber retains a heat in a direction orthogonal to the window slope.
The casing width is 127 mm. Together with the mounting fits of 5-10 mm, total width of the casing joining to the slope will be 133/137 mm. Such width erases a problem of the “cold bridges” in the single-layer walls. The windows retain a heat sparingly.
The casing width is a precondition to the reliable sealing of the erection joint excluding leakages and ingress of the cold air. Both exteriorly and interiorly, the casing has special “pockets” for mounting of weatherstrips. This provides a quick and perfect finishing of slopes. The system includes also a set of angle bars with different heights.
The “KBE Extra” retains well a heat. According to the Russian building specifications, the basic heat engineering index is the resistance to heat transfer (Rî). So, its value for the “KBE Extra” system is 0.71mC/W. It complies in full with the required standards in the coldest climatic zone – Irkutsk – which includes also the whole Yakutia. At the coldest inhabited point of the world. Oimyakon, Yakutia where temperature of -60 degrees of Celsius is typical for several weeks in winter, the windows made of the “KBE Extra” profile provide a reliable protection of children and adults against the frost.
Alongside with the advantages described, the “KBE Extra” system offers all other merits of the plastic windows: perfect sound insulation, high tightness that guarantees an absence of draughts as well as low operating costs. A variety of colors and wood grain finish gives a free hand in choice of decoration
